Laparoscopy Obesity Surgery:
Laparoscopic Obesity Surgery is done on patients who are suffering from severe over-weight conditions. According to Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and weight tables it is defined as approximately 100 pounds or 100% above ideal body weight is considered as obesity condition.
Symptoms and causes of Obesity:
In an obese person, the stored energy is too high. This may lead to low metabolism with low energy expenditure, excess amount of calorie intake etc. Severe obesity can cause due to eating habits, psychological environment, social atmosphere, surroundings, and genetic conditions, stress conditions. Other condition may include irregularity of appetite.
Obesity diagnosis is done on the basis of the examination of previous medical history and Body Mass Index (BMI) higher the BMI more the patient is considered as obese or overweight. Obesity condition may vary from person to person. In children it is considered above 85 percentile whereas in adults the overweight condition is considered above 30 percentile.
If the patient is found obese then other tests like blood tests and pelvic ultrasound (only for women) are also performed to identify other medical conditions.
Treatment and Recovery:
In Laparoscopic surgery, small incisions are made in the abdomen through which a laparoscope and a small video camera is connected and are inserted inside the stomach through small cannula. Camera is connected to give a magnified view of the inside of the stomach. Recovery is fast as the incision is very small. The patients are discharged from the hospital within 2 to 3 days of surgery.
