Ulcerative colitis

Ulcerative colitis is the condition that results in inflammation and ulcers of the colon and rectum.  This condition often cause severe abdomen pain, extreme  weight loss and fever.

Symptoms:
Common symptoms of Ulcerative colitis includes severe
abdominal pain
bloody stools
diarrhoea
fever
rectal pain
weight loss.

Diagnosis:
Stool test is done where doctor examines blood, bacteria in the stools
Endoscopy is done where a surgeon uses flexible tube to examine the stomach, small intestine and esophagus.
Colonoscopy is a test that involves insertion of tube in a rectum.
CT scan is done to get the X-ray of abdomen and pelvis.

Treatments and Recovery:
Surgery is necessary when there is massive bleeding, chronic or a severe blockage. A CT scan or colonoscopy can detect these serious problems. Surgery involves removing the entire colon with a creation of a new pathway for waste. This pathway can be out through a small opening in the abdominal wall or redirected back through the rectum.
